Description

Mill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1730, constructed of coursed and dressed limestone with brick dressings and a stone slate roof, featuring a brick stack. The building has a 2-unit lobby entry plan with a rear left wing and is designed in the early Georgian style. It stands two storeys high and has a five-window range. The central door, dating from the late 19th century, has an overlight and is set within a mid-20th century porch. The ground floor features two 8-pane late 18th century sash windows with gauged brick jambs and flat arches, while the first floor has three blind windows alternating with two 6-pane sashes, all with similar arches and surrounds. The farmhouse includes a brick plinth course, a raised storey band, an eaves band, and raised quoining. The hipped roof has a ridge stack, and there is a 2-light wood-mullioned cross window in the left gable wall with a similar arch and surround.

At the rear left, there is a kitchen range made of coursed limestone rubble with a stone slate roof. This section is two storeys high and has a three-window range with chamfered timber lintels over 20th century casements and an 18th century plank door in the right wall, topped by a gabled roof without a stack. Inside, the farmhouse features late 19th century four-panelled doors, except for an 18th century two-panelled door on the first floor. The interior also includes chamfered beams and a straight flight framed staircase adjoining the tack room at the rear left, as well as winder stairs next to the stack and opposite the entry. There are blocked fireplaces, including one in the first floor right room next to a two-panelled cupboard door.
