Description
This is a house located at 47 High Street in Stanford-in-the-Vale, dating from the early 17th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a thatched roof with brick stacks. The building has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high with a two-window range. The front has a modern inserted door and an adjoining window to the right, along with a late 20th-century leaded casement window replacing the original central door. To the left of the blocked door is a three-light leaded casement, and there are two three-light leaded casements in half dormers. The rear has timber lintels over two 18th-century one-light and one two-light leaded casements. The roof is half-hipped, with a stack on the left end and a late 19th-century stack on the right.
Inside, the house features a full set of chamfered and stopped joists on both sides, and a chamfered wood bressumer over the fireplace to the left. The roof structure includes a two-bay collar-truss with butt purlins and wattle and daub infill. There is a closed timber truss in the single-unit block attached to the right, which is separated from the main house by a straight joint. This single-unit block, possibly originally a stable, is also made of coursed limestone rubble and shares the same thatched roof. The interior has been remodelled, and openings have been altered in the late 20th century. Additionally, there is a late 20th-century gabled extension to the right and a lean-to at the rear.
