Description

Chinham House is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the 18th century and remodelled around 1830. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with limestone ashlar dressings, while the left side wall features early 19th century brickwork in a Flemish stretcher bond with flared headers. The building has a stone slate roof and brick stacks. It has an L-shaped plan with three units at the front and a wing to the rear left, designed in a Neo-Tudor style from the 1830 remodel.

The house is two storeys high with a four-window range. The front features a chamfered stone architrave around a 20th-century door with an overlight and a floating cornice. Above the door, there is a hood mould and a chamfered architrave surrounding a four-pane sash window. The other windows have similar details, each consisting of two four-pane sashes separated by a central chamfered mullion. Early 20th-century raking dormers are present on the roof, which is hipped on the left side and gabled on the right. There is a ridge stack on the left and a gable end stack on the right.

The left side wall includes a late 19th-century canted bay with sash windows and various other window styles, including two leaded casements. A segmental brick arch is found over a six-pane sash window at the rear of the main block. To the rear right is a mid-19th century brewhouse made of brick with a Welsh slate roof and a three-light leaded casement window. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. Additionally, there are early 19th-century walls and railings attached to the front of the house.
