Description

Apple Tree Cottage is a house dating to the 17th century, located on the west side of Faringdon Road in Stanford-in-the-Vale. The house is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, which has been painted white, with a thatched roof. It has a brick stack and a limestone rubble stack with a brick top on the right-hand side. The property follows a two-unit plan. It is a single-storey building with an attic, featuring a 2-window front. A timber lintel sits above an 18th-century plank door fitted with strap hinges, positioned on the left side; a 20th-century porch has been added. A timber lintel also covers a late 19th-century three-light casement window on the right side of the door. Two half-dormers are present on the front elevation, housing a late 19th-century two-light casement window (with six panes) to the left and a 20th-century casement to the right. The rear wall includes a timber lintel over a 19th-century six-pane fixed casement window. The roof is gabled, with a stack at the right end and a lateral stack on the front left. The interior was not inspected, but is likely to be of interest.
