Description
The Faringdon Tomb, located approximately 3 meters to the west of St Michael's Church, is a monument dedicated to Jane Allen, who died in 1920, and her husband Alexander, Baron Faringdon, who died in 1934. This tomb was created between 1920 and 1921 and features a large free-standing bronze cast of a sorrowing female figure dressed in Italian Renaissance style, adorned with flowing Art Nouveau drapery. The sculpture is signed at the base by George Frampton, a Royal Academician, and dated 1920. The figure stands at the head of three marble slabs, with the central slab raised and bevelled, displaying a copper coat of arms and inscriptions. The figure's head is bowed as she offers a wreath, while the right-hand slab is marked with the initials 'GF' and dated 1921.
