Description
Compton Beauchamp House features a rotunda, likely built in the late 19th century for Vice Chancellor Bacon and Judge Bacon. The structure is made of white limestone and has a wrought-iron bell-shaped top. Square piers divide the rotunda into six bays, with low seats positioned between the piers. The bases of the piers flanking the entry are intricately carved with grotesque masks over swags. Each pier is adorned with carved leaves and flowers, and there is an urn along with carved decoration on the frieze in the center of each bay. The capitals are designed in the 13th-century Venetian Gothic style.
