Description
Milbrook House School House is a farmhouse that has been converted into a school. It likely dates from the late 16th century and was encased in the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick, featuring some flared headers, and has an old plain-tile roof that is half-hipped to the right. There is a brick ridge stack located to the right of the center and an end stack to the left. The structure has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window range. To the left, there is a six-panel part-glazed door surrounded by a painted wood architrave and a flat wood on brackets. The ground floor has four-light casements in the center and to the right, both with segmental brick heads, while the first floor features three-light casements in the center and to the right, also with segmental brick heads. To the left on the first floor, there is a two-light casement with a segmental brick head. A brick dentil course runs along the eaves, and there are hipped dormers on the left and right with three-light horizontal sliding sashes.
An 18th-century addition to the left is also made of red brick and has an old plain-tile roof that is half-hipped to the left. This two-storey, single-bay addition has a four-light casement on the ground floor and a three-light casement on the first floor, both with segmental brick heads.
Inside, the building features a Queen-strut roof and an early 19th-century straight-flight staircase that divides into two flights at the half landing. Some rooms have 18th-century two-panel doors, and part of the stairwell has 18th-century fielded panels. The ground floor includes chamfered spine beams.
