Description

House. Dating to the late 16th century, it was remodelled around 1900. The front features cob and wattle infill within a timber frame, all rendered, with a chalk base and some brickwork. The rear wall is constructed of chalk rubble laid in courses. It has a thatched roof and brick stacks. The building follows a three-unit plan and is a 1 1/2-storey, two-window range. A pedimented hood, supported by brackets, shelters the central plank door, which has a small window above it. Two-light leaded casements are located on the first floor. Around 1900, two-light casements with pointed arches were fitted, and C18 leaded casements were added to the rear. The roof is hipped, with stacks at the ends. Inside, a plank dado dating from around 1900 runs down the centre. Six-panelled and plank doors are fitted with moulded architraves of around 1900, alongside a quarter-turn and straight flight staircase. The roof is a late 16th-century four-bay design, incorporating cambered collars, butt purlins, and arched windbraces. A single-storey bay, constructed around 1900 and featuring two-light casements, extends to the right.
