Description
The stable block and attached gatepier, located approximately 60 meters northeast of Newington House, date from the late 17th century to early 18th century. The structure is built of coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings and features an old plain-tile roof. It has an L-shaped plan and consists of one storey plus a loft. The stable range includes three wide doorways and four windows, all adorned with gauged-brick flat arches. The coach house range, which extends to the right, has a similar window situated between large entrances featuring brick Tudor arches, with the entrance to the left being a 20th-century addition. Each roof is complemented by two hipped roof dormers. Inside, some beams display ovolo mouldings. The brick gatepier, which is attached to the coach house range, has moulded panelled sides and is topped with a stone cap and ball finial. While the gatepier is primarily a late 19th-century to early 20th-century rebuilding, it retains some elements from the 17th century.
