Description

Farthynge Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, remodelled in the early 20th century. It is constructed of rendered masonry and timber framing, with a thatched roof and brick stacks. The house has a three-unit lobby-entry plan and one storey plus attics. The front of the house was altered in the early 20th century, with lean-to porch extensions to the right of centre and various casement windows added. Exposed timber framing is visible to the right of the porch and continues around the left gable wall. The roof includes a central 20th-century gabled dormer and two smaller dormers, with stacks located to the right of centre and at the left gable. A 20th-century first-floor extension stands on brick piers to the right gable. The left gable is timber framed. A continuous outshut extends to the rear. The interior retains exposed timber framing, a large stack with back-to-back open fireplaces, and a roof with straight windbraces.
