Description
The Abingdon Arms Public House is an early 18th-century public house located on the north side of High Street in Beckley. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and features an old plain-tile roof with stone and brick gable stacks. The building has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high. The front facade has five windows, with a symmetrical arrangement of doors and tall casements to the right of the center, all topped with stone flat arches. The main door is now hidden by a 19th-century tiled porch, and the windows immediately beside it have been blocked. A stone chimney with weathered offsets projects from the right gable, and a lower range extends to the left, accompanied by a small rear wing. Inside, the building features chamfered and stopped cross beams.
