Description

Shepherd's Cottage is a house dating from the mid- to late 17th century. It is constructed of timber framing with brick infill, and has a half-hipped roof covered in old tiles. There is a brick ridge stack from the 17th century and an 18th-century end stack. The house follows a three-unit plan, with three bays of timber framing. The ground floor has a 20th-century door within a 20th-century outshut to the right bay, and a single one-light leaded casement window to the left of the door. Other windows are also 20th century. The outshut extends along the right side wall.

Inside, there are chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and bressumers over open fireplaces up to the ridge stack, which has an oak screen with a seat to the left. Original features include a 17th-century plank first-floor door and timber-framed partitions. The roof is supported by a queen-post. The house was converted into three cottages in the 18th century.
