Description

Upperton Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating back to the 17th century, with significant alterations in the mid-18th century and further extensions in the mid-19th century. It was originally timber-framed. The front of the farmhouse is constructed of coursed chalk rubble with brick quoins and dressings, topped with a gabled roof covered in tiles. Brick end stacks are present, including an external stack on the right side. The original layout comprised two units. The visible facade is two storeys high and has a two-window range. It features segmental brick arches over a three-light and a four-light casement window on the ground floor, and a blocked window and a three-light casement window above. A raised brick storey band runs along the facade. A rear door, dating to the early 18th century, consists of two panels and is accessed via a late-19th-century porch. The rear right of the farmhouse features a mid-19th-century wing. Inside, a chamfered and stopped beam is visible on the left side. The interior also includes central timber-framed partitions and a framed rear wall with a jowled post. A 17th-century winder staircase leads to the attic, which contains a two-bay queen-post roof.
