Description
The Old Forge is a smithy and house, dating to the mid-to-late 18th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with brick quoins and dressings, and has a gabled roof covered in old tiles, with brick end stacks. The original plan comprised two units. The building is one storey and attic in height, with a two-window front. There are segmental brick arches over a central 20th-century door and flanking three-light casement windows. Dormer casements are located in the attic. A dentilled storey band runs along the top of the walls, and the eaves are similarly detailed. A one-storey, one-bay range of matching materials with a half-hipped roof is attached to the left. A further one-storey range with a gabled roof is attached to the right. The interior has not been inspected. The building is listed for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
