Description

These are two cottages, originally a single house, dated 1652 on a timber beam, and with a 19th-century roof replacement. The house was originally timber-framed, with some original studs visible at the front, and a rear first-floor wall of lighter timber frame construction. The exterior is now rendered, with some colourwashed brick, and has a gabled Welsh slate roof. There are two brick stacks, one at the ridge and one at the left end. The building has a three-room plan. It is two storeys high with a three-window front. The doors and windows are 20th-century replacements. An 18th-century single-story, one-bay extension is attached to the right side, constructed of colourwashed limestone rubble with a hipped roof covered in old tiles. Inside, original 17th-century plank doors remain. There are chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and a bressumer over an open fireplace located to the right of the ridge stack. The building includes a quarter-turn staircase with a winder, and a four-bay queen-post roof.
