Description
Brightwell Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse constructed from coursed limestone rubble, featuring brick quoins and dressings. It has a gabled roof covered with old tiles and symmetrical brick stacks at each end. The building has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall, with a symmetrical three-window range on the front. There are segmental brick arches above a late 19th-century door and flanking late 19th-century three-light casements, while flat brick arches are present over a first-floor one-light window flanked by three-light casements. A raised storey band and dentilled brick eaves add to the architectural detail. To the right, there is a brick bay with a two-light leaded casement and a hipped roof, which is part of a dairy and brewhouse range that extends to the rear right. This range is built of similar materials and features an end stack and a fine open fireplace with a copper. The rear wing, dated 1824, is made of chequer brick. Inside, the farmhouse has stone flag floors and ribbed doors on the first floor.
