Description
Orchard End is a house dating from the late 13th to 14th century. It features timber framing with plastered infill and a thatched roof with brick stacks. Originally a three-bay hall house, it has been altered to a three-unit plan with gable outshuts. The building has one storey plus attics and an irregular three-window front. The entrance is located in the right bay, and there are several windows, including two old two-light leaded casements with board shutters and three dormers with renewed casements. The roof has a central ridge stack on a rubble base, is hipped to the left, and extends over brick outshuts at both ends. Inside, the original cruck frames of the structure are still visible, along with parts of the framework. The first-floor joists at the left end may be original.
