Description
No. 13 Upper High Street is a townhouse that has been converted into offices. It dates from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the late 20th century. The building features a rendered plinth and red brick construction with flared headers in Flemish bond. It has an old plain-tile roof and brick stacks at both ends. The structure is two storeys high with an attic and has a five-window range.
The central entrance has a 18th-century seven-panel part-glazed door, surrounded by a painted wood architrave and topped with a flat hood supported by carved scroll brackets. All window openings contain 16-pane unhorned sashes with cambered brick heads. There is a flat brick band between the ground and first floor, and a wooden dentil cornice at the eaves. The attic features three late 20th-century flat-roofed dormers with 6-pane pivoting casements.
Inside, there is a dog-leg staircase with landings and a baluster balustrade, which has been relocated to the rear of the building. The original fireplaces have been blocked, and their surrounds have been removed.
