Description
The Swan Hotel is a building that dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century and was refronted in the 18th century. It is currently being converted into shops, offices, and a public house. The structure is made of grey brick with red brick dressings and features an old plain-tile complex roof, with a brick end stack on the right and a ridge stack to the right of the center.
The facade is complex, featuring a three-storey central bay, a two-storey, two-window range to the left, and a two-storeys-and-attic, two-window range to the right. There are panelled carriageway doors leading to a flat-arched carriageway in the center. The left and right ranges have 16-pane unhorned sash windows, mostly with brick flat arches. The center has two-light casements with segmental brick heads on the first and second floors, and a single-light casement between the ground and first floors. The left side has a gabled roof, while the center and right have hipped roofs, with a gabled dormer on the right. The rear of the building features timber framing.
Inside, there is a painted wooden ceiling from the late 16th or early 17th century in the upper storey west room of the street range.
