Description
H and D Smith, Sons and Daughters is a house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling. It dates from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a stone uncoursed rubble plinth and red brick walls with flared headers in Flemish bond. It has an old plain-tile hipped roof and a brick stack on the left side.
The main facade faces North Street and is three stories high with a three-window range. There are 19th-century double-leaf glazed doors at the angled corner on the right end and a 20th-century plate-glass window to the right of the center. To the left, there is a 16-pane unhorned sash window with a segmental brick head. A fascia board runs between the ground and first floors on the right and center, while a flat brick band separates the ground and first floors on the left.
On the first floor, there are three 12-pane segmental-topped horned sash windows, each with segmental brick heads, and a flat brick band between the first and second floors. The second floor has three 2-light casements featuring leaded-lights. On the right return facing Upper High Street, there is a 20th-century plate-glass window on the ground floor right, a 12-pane segmental-topped horned sash with a segmental brick head on the first floor, and a flat brick band between the first and second floors. The second floor also has a 2-light casement with leaded-lights. The interior has not been inspected.
