Description
The Left Entrance Lodge, located approximately 45 meters southeast of Rycotewood College, is a lodge built around 1835 by George Wilkinson. It features a base made of uncoursed stone rubble, with red brick above and a slate pyramidal roof adorned with lead ridges. The lodge has an octagonal single-cell plan and is a single storey in height.
The entrance consists of a plank door with a cambered brick head on the angled side that faces the College buildings. On the cardinal side facing the driveway, there is an 8-pane window with a cambered brick head set in a recess that has a dentil course at the top. Another 8-pane window with a cambered brick head is located on the cardinal side facing the College building. The eaves are highlighted by a flat stone string-course and a dentil brick course. The octagonal pyramidal roof is topped with a ball finial.
This lodge is one of a pair serving the College buildings, which were formerly a workhouse.
