Description
The stable range, located approximately 30 metres north of The Great House, is a Grade II listed structure dating from the early 18th century, with possible earlier elements. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, featuring timber lintels and some ashlar dressings, topped with an old plain-tile roof. The building is arranged in an L-shape. The barn range at the rear has additional doorways and some blocked slits. The stable and coach house range extends forward from the right and includes doors and tall windows beneath stone flat arches, as well as two carriage entries with 3-centred arches and keyblocks, which enclose fielded-panel double-leaf doors.
Inside, the higher barn on the left has a 3-bay clasped-purlin roof supported by wall posts, while the 6-bay barn to the right features a 19th-century roof. The stable and coach house range also has a clasped-purlin roof with upper-cruck trusses, and possibly earlier elements such as an arch-braced collar and some curved windbraces. Several cross walls include timber-framed gables with brick infill.
