Description

Holmwood is an early 18th-century country house with later 18th-century extensions and alterations. The lower part of the central section is rendered, while the rest is red brick with a stone eaves cornice and a slate roof, featuring brick ridge stacks. The house has a double-depth plan and is arranged as a 7-window, 5-bay range, with the central three bays projecting and topped by a shallow pediment. The main entrance is a 6-panel door set within a moulded stone surround. There are 12-pane sash windows on both the ground and first floors, with blind circular panels positioned between the ground and first floors to the left and right of the centre. To the right is a single bay with 12-pane sashes, and to the left is a bay with a central 12-pane sash to both ground and first floor, flanked on both floors by 4-pane sashes. An oval window is located in the pediment. The interior of the house has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. A subsidiary wing, likely dating to the late 18th century, adjoins the main house to the left; it is constructed of red brick with a slate roof and is arranged as a 2-storey, 4-window range.
