Description
The Cottage is a cottage dated 1733, with a 19th-century addition and minor 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of flint with red brick dressings, and features an addition of brick and weatherboard, topped with a thatched roof. The building has a two-room plan with a wrap-around lean-to added at the south-east end. It is a single-storey structure with two 2-light 19th-century casement windows flanking a central plank door that has a glazed panel. The right end features a rebuilt red brick stack with a large semi-circular bread oven concealed by the lean-to. On the rear, there is a brick at the right corner inscribed "H 1733 B". The 18th-century part has a small window in the left bay that is part-blocked and has a circular window, along with a former external stack in the right bay. The 19th-century bay on the left has a board door. The right return has been rebuilt in brick in the late 20th century and features two small-pane windows. Inside, the left-hand and central rooms are separated by a partition wall with the timber frame visible at the top. The central room contains an open fireplace with a wood lintel, and the plaster ceilings have exposed purlins.
