Description

Magnolia Cottage is a house dating from the early 18th century, situated on the west side of High Street, Dorchester. The house is built of colourwashed rubble with brick dressings, topped by an old plain-tile roof with a brick ridge stack. Originally planned as two units, it features two rear wings. The main house has one storey and attics. The front facade, featuring a brick dentil eaves course, has 20th-century casement windows on the ground floor and original leaded dormers in the attic. The left bay projects slightly, with a blocked entrance, and there is a further blocked entrance in the right gable wall. A rear wing to the right also has a similar eaves course and dormer. The left gable wall and the gable wall of the right rear wing are rendered and may be timber framed. The interior remains uninspected, and it is believed the house may have initially been constructed as two cottages.
