Description
This lychgate, built around 1845 by Sir Gilbert Scott for Caroline Gibbs, is located approximately 25 meters northeast of the Church of St. Michael and All Angels. It features a stone plinth and open timber framing made of oak, topped with a stone slate roof that has a wrought-iron cross at the ridge. Designed in the Gothic Revival style, the lychgate has two-centred arches at each end, with trefoil openings on either side. The roof is supported by braced collar trusses and king-post trusses at the gable ends. The bargeboards and tie-beams are inscribed and decorated, and most of the timber work is chamfered with decorative end-stops.
