Description
No. 42 Upper High Street is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the 17th century and was refronted in the 19th century. The building features a rendered plinth and roughcast, likely built on a timber frame, with a slate roof. There is a 20th-century rebuilt brick ridge stack located to the right of the center. The house is two stories high and has a three-window range. To the right of the center, there are 12-pane double doors leading to a through-passage, which are framed by a 19th-century Tudor-style carved wood surround. To the left, there is a 19th-century three-light wood casement window, and in the center, a four-light wood casement window. A single-light leaded window is positioned to the left of the doorway, while a horned sash window without glazing bars is to the right. The building also has three three-light casements with leaded lights and deep eaves. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reputed to contain a 17th-century staircase and a panelled room.
