Description
Plum Tree Cottage is a small house that dates back to the 17th century, with remodels and extensions from the 18th and 20th centuries. The exterior features colourwashed coursed rubble and some timber framing, topped with a thatched roof and a brick gable stack. The house has a two-unit lobby-entry plan that has been extended and altered over time. It stands one storey plus attics.
The entrance front, which faces away from the road, includes a blocked doorway on the extreme left and a 20th-century wing projecting to the right that contains the current entrance. The road-facing side has two three-light segmental-arched casements, with three-light dormers above. The stack aligns with the former entrance, and the lean-to bay against the timber-framed left gable wall is the remaining part of the left half of the original 17th-century house. The right bay of the present structure is likely from the 18th century.
Inside, there are back-to-back open fireplaces, stop-chamfered beams, and a quarter-turn stair against a timber-framed internal wall that was formerly the right gable.
