Description

The Crown Public House is a public house that may date back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is constructed of red brick featuring flared headers, with a timber frame wing that has brick infill on the left side. The building has a plain old tile roof and brick stacks. It likely originally had a lobby-entry plan. The structure is two stories tall and has a two-window range, with a lower two-story wing that projects to the left.

At the center, there is a 20th-century timber-frame porch with a 20th-century sash door, topped by a gabled tiled roof. To the right, there is a three-light 19th-century casement window, and above the porch, there is a two-light 19th-century casement. Another three-light 19th-century casement is located to the right on the first floor. The left return of the wing features irregular 19th-century casement windows. The main range has a hipped roof with a ridge stack positioned to the left of center and an end stack on the right. A queen-post truss is visible on the gable end of the wing.

Inside, there are chamfered beams with end stops that have survived. Additionally, there is a subsidiary feature: a single-story brick wing that projects to the left, which has a two-bay barn that may date back to the 18th century, and it is weather-boarded with a thatched end.
