Description

Nos 102 and 103 on High Street are a house and shop that likely function as one building. They were built between 1713 and 1738 by William Ives, an apothecary, although the structure has been altered over time. The building features three or four storeys of stuccoed timber-framing with cellars.

The north elevation shows that the east range has three storeys. On the first floor, there is a possibly altered three-light sash window flanked by two Corinthian pilasters and topped with a moulded entablature. The second floor features a three-light sash window in a moulded frame, which is adorned with a pediment and a bracketed cornice. The west range has four storeys; the first and second floors each have a three-light sash window in a moulded frame with an architrave. Above these is a bold projecting cornice with modillions, and a wooden balcony. The top floor contains two additional sash windows.

The east elevation, which faces Nos 1 and 2 Oriel Street, is also three storeys of stuccoed timber-framing. On the first floor, there are two sash windows with cornices, two plain sash windows, and a three-light sash window, all of which likely date from the 18th century. The ground floor has a modern shop front.

All listed buildings on the south side of High Street form a group.
