Description
Merton College's North Range in the Front Quadrangle dates back to 1485. It features gatehouses constructed around 1418, with the eastern range rebuilt in 1590 and the western range built in 1631. Between 1836 and 1841, Edward Blore refaced the gate tower and the street and west sides using Bath stone. The block to the east of the range was originally built around 1300 and underwent partial rebuilding in the early 19th century, but the original roof timbers remain exposed following restoration work in 1971.
