Description
Merton College Stables is a building located on Merton Street, dating back to around 1485. It is constructed of rubble and features a Welsh slate roof. The ground floor, which was originally used as stables, has no windows on the south side. The first floor includes two plain modern single-light stone-framed windows and two larger wood-framed openings. Above the coachway on the east side, there is a renewed or modern two-light stone mullioned window. Inside, the roof timbers are believed to be late medieval, featuring tie beams with curved braces. The building was converted into a flat in 1946. It is part of a group with Beam Hall, Nos 3, 4A, and 5, and is associated with New Block at Corpus Christi College and Oriel College.
