Description
Number 1 Kybald Street is a building likely constructed around 1600, representing the "ling" type of plan typical of Oxford houses. The dormers were added around 1630. The front wall has recently been rebuilt using the original materials, while the back has been modernized. The structure is two stories high, made of rubble and timber-framing, and includes a cellar and two gables, each featuring a 6-light wood oriel window supported on brackets. On the first floor, there is a 5-light stone mullioned window on the east side and a 3-light late 17th century wood casement window on the west side. The ground floor has two modern casement windows. The interior has been largely modernized but is divided into four bays by beams. This building was once known as "The Black House" Inn. It underwent alterations in 1962. All the listed buildings on Kybald Street are part of a group.
