Description

The Old Parsonage is an early 17th-century building that has been restored and features modern additions. Located on the west side of Banbury Road, it has a two-storey structure made of coursed rubble, topped with a stone slate roof and two gables that have stone copings and ball finials. A moulded string course runs along the first and second floors. The building has a central renewed moulded stone stack and another stack at the north end.

On the ground floor, there are three stone doorways with four-centred heads, moulded jambs, and spandrels, with the southern doorway being renewed. The date 1659 is inscribed in the spandrel of the central doorway. The first floor features two four-mullioned windows, and each gable contains a three-light casement window with a moulded stone cornice.

To the northwest, there is a two-storey modern red brick addition, and at the northwest angle, there is another two-storey roughcast addition. To the southwest of No 1, there is a two-storey roughcast extension. On the west side of the original building, two large restored gables are present, with a four-light stone mullioned window in the northern gable and a two-light similar window in the southern gable; these gables have modern wood bargeboards.

Inside, the building includes some original fireplaces and early 18th-century panelling. Historical drawings from 1820 by J C Buckler can be found in the Bodleian Library, depicting the condition of the exterior at that time.
