Description

The Black Horse Inn and The Cottage, located at 102 St Clement's Street, date back to the early 17th century. The north elevation features two stories of roughcast rubble with cellars, a tiled pent roof, a cornice at the first floor, and a boxed-out bar front on a brick base. The building has a modern tiled roof and brick stacks, with four gables; the two on the east are tile-hung and have modern four-light casement windows, while the two on the west feature 18th-century two-light casements. The east end of the first floor has modern four-light casements, and the west end has a double 18th- to 19th-century sash window. In front of the house, there is an unfenced forecourt with old cobble setts and trees. At the back, there are modern brick additions against the two gables of the original house, which also has a 17th-century staircase projection. The entire house has been recently repaired and partially remodeled, and the stabling at the back has been removed.

Inside, there is an original stone fireplace and some panelled doors, which were still present in 1949. Adjacent to the inn is The Cottage (No 102A), possibly from the 18th century, which is a single-storey building with a gabled attic dormer, a Welsh slate roof, and a boxed-out splayed 18th-century style sash window on a brick base.
