Description

Nowell House is a two-storied building dating from 1485. An inscription indicates it was “Mrs Sarah Nowell’s School” in 1822. The structure is constructed of rubble and has a Welsh slate hipped roof. It features two two-light casement windows. A central six-panel door is sheltered by a trellis porch. A brick pent is located at the rear of the building. Historical records indicate that in 1820, the Reverend Thomas Nowell established the school in Iffley, providing it with four shares of £100 each in the Oxford Canal.
