Description
6 and 7 New College Lane is a house that likely originated in the 17th century but mainly reflects 18th-century architecture. It is a three-storey building constructed of stuccoed and roughcast rubble, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The ground floor of No 7 features a modern boxed-out bay. The building has four sash windows with glazing bars, and the first-floor windows have cornices and blind boxes. At the north-east angle of the roof, there is a restored rectangular structure with a modern cornice and a Welsh slate roof, which is said to have been used as an observatory by the astronomer Edmund Halley. The sides of the house are stuccoed, and there is an overhang on the north side. Historically, it was once known as Stable Hall. The building is part of a group that includes No 5 New College Rooms and Nos 6 to 8.
