Description

This early 19th-century building at 38 and 39 St Giles Street is a two-unit block constructed of rendered brick. It stands four storeys high, with a basement and a later-added attic. The building extends for eight windows and features a doorway at each end. The ground-floor windows are round-headed sashes, while the windows above are plain sashes, all incorporating glazing bars. Original six-panel doors are present, each with a fanlight above. A cast-iron balcony runs along the first floor. Architectural detailing includes a band at the level of the second floor and a cornice at the level of the third floor. The roof is a slate mansard roof with sash dormers. The building is surrounded by cast-iron area railings with lotus finials. Nos. 31 to 46 and Nos. 49 to 56 St Giles Street form a group.
