Description
No. 37 on St Giles Street is a three-storey house built in the late 18th century, constructed from ashlar stone. It features decorative bands at the first and second floors, a cornice with modillions, and a small parapet. The roof is covered with Welsh slate.
On the ground floor, there are four sash windows set in moulded stone frames with moulded cornices, along with a central stone doorway framed in Doric style, complete with a pediment, rusticated imposts, and two engaged columns. The first and second floors each have five sash windows in moulded stone frames, with the second-floor windows also featuring cornices. At the back of the house, there is a two-storey stone wing that is contemporary to the main structure. All windows include glazing bars, although the roof is not visible from the street.
Inside, the ground and first floor rooms are adorned with late 18th-century plaster friezes and fireplaces, and the staircase also dates from this period.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos. 31 to 46 and Nos. 49 to 56 on St Giles Street.
