Description

The Christchurch Library was built between 1716 and 1761 by Dr. George Clarke, with William Townesend as the mason. It is constructed from Headington and Burford (Taynton) stone. The entablature was renewed in 1894, and the building was refaced in Portland and Clipsham stone between 1960 and 1962.
