Description
The footbridge over the River Cherwell at Parson's Pleasure punt rollers was built in 1949 and is now part of the Marston cycle track. Designed by R Travers Morgan and Partners, it features prestressed concrete with aluminium alloy parapets. The bridge has two post-tensioned portal frames with a clear span of 45 feet, which are rigidly fixed to their bases. The deck originally consisted of prestressed precast planks but has since been replaced with in situ concrete. This bridge is notable for being the first statically indeterminate prestressed concrete bridge in Britain and may also be the first prestressed fixed arch bridge in the world.
