Description
The Church of St Cross is a parish church with origins dating from the 11th to 12th centuries, featuring a chancel from this period. The west tower was added in the mid-13th century, with its top stage completed in 1464 and repaired in 1908. The north arcade and north aisle were rebuilt in the mid-15th century. The north aisle was further rebuilt in 1839, except for the west end, and the south aisle was rebuilt in 1843, with J M Derick as the architect. An organ chamber and vestry were added to the north aisle in 1876 by architect H J Tollit. The church underwent restoration in 1893 by E P Warren, which included the installation of new clerestory windows.
