Description
The dovecote, located approximately 50 meters south of Old Place Yard House, is likely from the 17th century and was altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble with squared quoins and some brick, topped with an old plain tile roof. The dovecote has a square plan and features slightly-battered walls that rise from a rubble plinth, which has double-stepped brick weatherings. The upper stage has small scattered openings from the 20th century. The front includes a central doorway and an upper door, which is now accessed by a 20th-century concrete external stair. The pyramid roof has boxed eaves and a perspex finial light. Inside, the rubble walls are lined with nesting boxes and have projecting stone ledges every third row, while the roof was rebuilt in the 20th century.
