Description
Grebe Cottage is a house, originally subdivided, likely dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, with a 20th-century extension. It is constructed of limestone rubble with wooden lintels, and has thatch and old plain-tile roofs, topped with rubble and brick stacks. The original plan was for two units, extended to four, plus a rear wing. The building is two storeys high. The central bays of the front elevation are thatched and feature small two-light casement windows, flanking a rounded stair projection with a small window. To the right is a two-window range with tiled cladding, higher eaves, a doorway, and likely dating from the 18th century, though it may be an earlier structure raised later. A tiled bay to the left of the earlier range contains the present main entrance. A substantial rubble and brick stack rises at the junction of this bay and the earlier section. The rear of the thatched bays is largely hidden by a thatched 20th-century rear wing. The interior has not been inspected.
