Description
Castle House is a house that dates from the 18th century or earlier and was remodelled in the 19th century. It is constructed of ironstone ashlar and features a steeply pitched Welsh slate roof with two renewed brick end stacks. The house has two storeys plus an attic and a seven-window range. The central entrance includes a six-panelled door set within a keystoned moulded doorcase and a moulded hood. Flanking the doorway are three sash windows with keystoned heads and glazing bars. The first floor has six similar windows. There is a central door opening onto a balcony that has margin lights, and two gabled attic dormers that are only partially visible. The building has moulded string courses at the first and attic floors, a panelled parapet with moulded coping, and a sundial. The stone copings are also notable. To the right end, there is a blocked two-light stone mullioned window with a hood mould. The rear elevation is finished in 19th-century stucco. Inside, there is a 19th-century elliptical staircase, a 19th-century ceiling band in the hall, 18th-century doors and doorcases, and 19th-century floor tiles.
