Description
Dodd Insurance Brokers is an office that was originally built as a house in 1866 by William Wilkinson of Oxford for W.J. Douglas, the owner of Castle House. The building is constructed from red, white, black, and blue brick, with dressings made from two different types of stone. It features a Gothic style with a hipped, slated roof adorned with finials and an ornamental ridge, along with brick twin-shafted lateral stacks. The structure has two storeys plus an attic and a narrow frontage.
On the ground floor, there is a heavily carved foliated stone capital supporting a pillar between the sash windows. The first floor includes a paired sash window, and there is a flat-roofed attic dormer. To the right, a brick and stone corner turret adds to the design. A wrought iron balcony and a continuous stone hood mould are present above the first-floor windows, with the entrance located on the side. This building is noted as a rare example of a folly or double cottage ornée, alongside the adjacent No. 23.
