Description
The Tilting Bridge, located approximately 250 metres south of King's Sutton Lock on the Oxford Canal, is a canal bridge dating from the late 18th century, with some parts rebuilt in the 20th century. It features a wooden tilting mechanism with inclined counterweight beams that have been renewed. The abutments of the bridge splay outwards and decrease in size. The eastern abutment is constructed of brick and includes projecting limestone fender blocks and bullnose brick copings, while the western abutment has been renewed using concrete block. This tilting bridge was designed by James Brindley and is a notable feature of the Oxford Canal.
