Description
The bridge at the junction with Station Road, along with its approach walls, is a canal bridge dating from around 1790, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings. The bridge features a wide segmental arch, supported by ashlar voussoirs that spring from projecting wedge-shaped imposts, which are connected to a projecting keyblock by a plain hood. Both keyblocks are inscribed with the number "7", while a cast-iron plate on the north face bears the number "206". The south parapet has been modified in alignment to match a nearby later bridge, which is not included in this listing. The north parapet extends approximately 40 meters to the east as a rubble retaining wall and connects with the front garden wall of Canal Cottage on Station Road. The western end of the parapet curves around next to a ramped approach from the towpath.
