Description
This building is a barn and stable located approximately 25 meters northeast of Fernhill Farm, dating from the early to mid 18th century. It is constructed from squared coursed ironstone and features a steeply pitched roof made of corrugated asbestos and corrugated iron. The barn has a brick end stack and stone-coped gables, and it consists of five bays.
On the right side, there is a stable that includes a step ladder leading to former living accommodation above. The stable has a plank door with a wooden lintel, and to the left, there is a two-light wooden mullioned window with shutters. A porch on the left side of the barn has a midstrey. The roof of the barn is a five-bay trenched purlin design, featuring collar beams, tie beams, and common rafters. Inside the stable, there are two stalls along with rear feeding racks and troughs. Local legend suggests that this barn was used as a hide-out by the Culworth Robbers.
