Description
The lime kiln, located approximately 150 metres east of Lime Hollow in Lower Heyford, is a structure from the 18th or early 19th century. It is built from limestone rubble, featuring wooden lintels and some brick dressings, and has a corrugated-sheet roof. This rectangular lean-to structure is set into a bank, with the left half of the front open and small windows at both ends. Inside, the rear wall of the open section has a semi-circular brick arch that leads to a brick-lined chamber, which includes a pair of small round-head openings in its rear wall. The enclosed right half of the main structure has a brick floor.
